Celebrate Makar Sankranti: Day of Joy and Learning at Goldenbee Global School
Each festival at Goldenbee Global School is an event for children to learn, grow, and have fun. So, on Makar Sankranti this time, it’s not only about flying kites; we are flying high with knowledge, creativity, and the spirit of celebration! As the colourful kites fill the skies, the hearts of our students get sprinkled with excitement, joy, and values that make them bright learners. Let’s explore how, at Goldenbee Global School, Makar Sankranti is more than a holiday. It’s a celebration of tradition, science, art, and togetherness.
The Spirit of Makar Sankranti: What’s the Buzz About?
Makar Sankranti signifies the sun’s transit into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makar). All of India celebrates it with utmost joy. This significant festival will become a joyous learning expedition for our children at Goldenbee Global School.
The buzzing excitement begins with an interactive storytelling session about the science behind the solstice, explaining why the sun’s journey affects our lives. Children learn about the importance of harvest, new beginnings, and the significance of the sun’s movement through engaging stories, fun facts, and a little magic. This fascinating lesson brings science to life, helping students understand nature’s rhythms educationally and enjoyably.

Kite Flying: Touching the Sky
Of course, no festival at Makar Sankranti would be complete without kite flying, a traditional activity from ages ago! With GoldenBee, the kite-flying sessions are fun and a great learning experience in STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—where the children learn how the kites soar in the sky and do not fall on the ground.
These tiny engineers will work on their designs in a hands-on, creative kite-making workshop involving different shapes and sizes. Our teachers assist students in making these kites from scratch while developing an understanding of how the velocity of the wind, balance, and gravity apply to these pretty flying things.
As the children set their hand-tailored kites free, they soar to heights with their self-acquired knowledge. Their kites may soar among the clouds, but they are grounded with the science behind flight!
Let’s Fly! Taking Fun and Learning to New Heights!
Makar Sankranti is also known for its delicious traditional sweets made of sesame seeds and jaggery, which symbolize warmth and togetherness. Goldenbee’s celebration includes a special cooking session where students learn to make these sweet treats.
However, it is not merely cooking that matters; sharing matters. Students learn the values of community and kindness by sharing the sweets they make with their classmates and school staff. Helping others spread happiness is the focus of the activity, just as the sun radiates warmth to the earth.
Our “sweet lesson” includes an invitation to a Good Deeds Challenge, where students are encouraged to do something nice for someone in the community during the festival. Whether helping a friend, lending a hand at home, or just sharing a smile, our students learn that true celebration comes from spreading kindness.

Creating Traditions: Art and Culture Sprout to Life
To make the celebrations even more vibrant, students attend arts and crafts sessions where they make decorative kites, sun symbols, and traditional rangoli. These activities connect children to the rich cultural traditions of India while giving them a chance to express their creativity.
Every creation speaks of the festival and the children’s artistic skills, from colourful rangoli designs to hand-painted kites with bright colours and glitter. Through art, they learn about the diversity of the festival’s celebrations across India, thus fostering an appreciation for different cultures and regional traditions.

GoldenBee’s Festival of Friendship: Building Bonds and Memories
Makar Sankranti at Goldenbee was also an activity for making lifelong memories and friendships. The school was full of fun games and team activities. These included competitions like kite-flying and relay races, in which the students worked together and cheered for each other while enjoying the thrill of friendly competition.
From all these activities, children learn something valuable: teamwork, sportsmanship, and the sheer joy of being part of a community. This is a laughter-filled, joyous, and celebration-filled day that students never forget during school years.
